SEAWEED PRESSING WORKSHOPS

Come and join us in the beautiful coastal town of Lyme Regis for a relaxed and creative morning learning the unique art of seaweed pressing. Melanie & Julia of molesworth & bird will guide you through the process, offering advice on how to forage for the best specimens as well as sharing the basic skills we have developed for successful seaweed pressing.

Classes will be limited to a maximum of 8 and everyone will go away with their own collection of glorious seaweed pressings with instructions on how to complete the pressing process at home.

What to expect:

The course will last 3 hours.

Morning sessions will be from 10.00 - 13.00.

Afternoon sessions will be from 14.00 - 17.00.

  • Meet and greet with an introduction by Melanie and Julia to the art of seaweed pressing
  • A gentle walk down to the beach at low tide to forage for seaweed specimens.
  • Return to the studio for refreshments and a demonstration of our craft.
  • Time for pressing your seaweeds with on-hand advice and guidance.

Course includes:

  • All the materials you will need will be provided with the aim of producing around 6 pressings each.
  • Seaweed pressing instruction sheet.
  • A Field Studies Council seaweed identification chart.
  • A folder to hold your artwork with instructions to complete the pressing process at home.
  • Tasty refreshments from the cafe next door.
  • Special 'on the day' 10% discount at our molesworth & bird shop which is close by.

What to wear:

Please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear for our trip to the beach. The rocks can be very slippery at low tide so appropriate non-slip shoes such as wellington boots, beach shoes (Crocs are a good option!) are really important. We will endeavour to go out whatever the British weather throws at us!

Children from 12 -15 years are welcome but should be accompanied by an adult.
